What we see in Napanee homes
Napanee sits about half an hour east of us along the 401, at the point where the Quinte region starts turning into the Kingston catchment. Almost nobody advertising electrical work in Belleville bothers coming this far east, and almost nobody in Kingston bothers coming this far west, which is why the town is worth its own page.
The older core around the Napanee River has nineteenth century stone and brick housing, and the electrical questions there are the familiar ones for buildings of that age — original knob and tube in ceilings, 60 amp services that insurers now query, and decades of partial modernisation layered on top of each other.
Outside the core, Greater Napanee is a large and largely rural municipality. That means a very different set of jobs: long service runs, detached garages and shops, wells, and properties where an outage lasts considerably longer than it does in town because they are at the end of the line.
There is also a meaningful stock of post-war and 1960s housing in the town itself, which carries the same 100 amp service and aluminum branch wiring questions as the equivalent housing in Belleville and Trenton.
Getting to you
About thirty minutes from Belleville, straight down the 401. No travel charge to Greater Napanee, including the rural parts of the municipality.
Booked work is usually within the week. Emergency calls are realistically longer than they are in Belleville — call and we will tell you a number we can actually meet.
What comes up most here
Panel upgrades on both the older town housing and the rural properties. Rural service changes often involve more than the panel, because the run from the pole to the house is frequently as old as the panel is.
Generator transfer switches on rural properties. If you are on a well, this is not a comfort purchase — no power means no water, and outages out here run longer.
Knob and tube in the older housing near the river, usually because an insurer has asked.
Detached garage and shop supplies. Properly sized, properly buried, properly protected feeders to outbuildings.
Pre-purchase inspections, particularly on rural properties where what you can see from the driveway tells you very little about what is in the basement.
Rural properties specifically
If you are outside the town, three things are worth knowing before you call:
Your service run may be the problem, not your panel. On older rural properties the overhead run from the pole and the mast on the house are frequently the weakest part of the system, and replacing the panel without addressing them fixes the wrong end.
Well pumps need their own thought. They are a significant load, they are the thing you miss most in an outage, and they are the circuit most often forgotten when a generator is being planned.
Outbuildings need a real feeder. An extension cord run out to a shed is extremely common and it is not a wiring method. A proper buried feeder with its own protection costs less than most people assume.
Before this page is published
Needs from the client: confirmation that Greater Napanee is genuinely within the service area and that the response times above are honest, one completed Napanee job with a photo, and reviews from customers here.
Also confirm which utility serves the town and which serves the rural parts of the municipality — that detail is useful on the page and it should not be guessed at.
